I need your help!!!

The Dean from my University approached me and asked me to find an Egyptian who is worthy of receiving this years academic Honorary Degree.

Honorary degrees are usually awarded at regular graduation ceremonies, at which the recipients are often invited to make a speech of acceptance before the assembled faculty and graduates – an event which often forms the highlight of the ceremony.

Usually the degree is conferred as a way of honoring a distinguished visitor's contributions to a specific field, or to society in general...and in this case, someone who has contributed to Egyptian society. Additionally, it would be great (but we should not limit ourselves to) having someone who contributed to the revolution in some great way, shape or form.

The only requirement is that the Honorary Degree recipient speaks good English, at least proficient enough to give a 10-12 minute speech, and that can touch the hearts and minds of the crowd. Also, their work has to coincide with our University mission statement and values which can be summed up as follows: Equality in Education, and Social Justice.

But here is the link to see our University core values in greater detail: http://www.usfca.edu/about/values/

This Years graduation ceremony is on May 20th, 2011.
The University will help him/her obtain their visa, and pay for their flight out here as well as their accommodations.

This is where all of you come in: please post in this group any person you see fit to recieve this years Honorary Degree. Would be ideal if you know this person directly, however, please dont hesitate to nominate someone whom you have simply heard of but have never met in person.

We already tried contacting Ayman Mohy Eldin and Wael Ghonim, but my Dean and I think it would be great to give it to someone who is less fortunate - a modern-day unspoken hero that has not gained as much international attention.

When you post a candidate, please post who they are, what they do/did, and why you think they are plausible candidates.
