Deborah Bruhns Elvin, 59, was in declining health, and passed away on August 10, 2011. She was dearly loved by her family and friends. Deb was born in Baraboo, Wisconsin on March 19, 1952. After graduating from Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn, IL in 1970, Deb attended Indiana University and received her bachelor’s degree in Music Education in 1974. Deb spent much of her professional career in retail management with Sears, Target, Goodwill, and Nordstrom. She also served as an early director for Clark Howard’s Consumer Action Center at WGST and later WSB radio. In 1980, Deb married James Bradley Elvin, and together they raised two children, David and Jennifer, in Snellville, GA. The couple divorced in 2001. Deb was extremely proud of her children. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert J. Bruhns (Ruth) and is survived by her mother, Sally Olson (Howard), brother, Robert A. Bruhns (Karen), son, David Elvin (Laura), and daughter, Jennifer Deuson (Nicolas). A celebration of Deb’s life will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 731 Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta, GA 30308 on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (www.pancan.org) in memory of Deborah Elvin. Deb had volunteered in the search for a cure of pancreatic cancer after losing her companion, Robert Bonde, to pancreatic cancer three years ago.
