Dairy Queens is a women's only page for breastfeeding support.

Before the age of men and cows, there was a time when milk meant all babies nursed at the breast of their mom or at least a wet nurse. At this time all women possessed basic knowledge of breastfeeding. Small girls (and boys alike) learned the art of the breast at the knees of their mothers, aunts, and cousins. When they reached the milestone of birth- pushing out their baby and gathering it to their breast- nothing was more natural than to nurse. Socialized around breastfeeding, it was instinctual.

In this time when people were more of a "it takes a village" mindset, the women with little babies all lived together and helped each other. Or else they lived with their greater family like moms, sisters, and/or in-laws. There was a large support system. More than that, there was basic knowledge about breastfeeding common and shared between all women.

Back when all women were Dairy Queens (before the widespread invention of formula and breeding of cows) children were healthier, women trusted their bodies ability to nourish their children, and nursing problems were rare. It seems this knowledge has been diminished over several generations.

The group creator, Courtney McMillian, made Dairy Queens to restore that knowledge, restore faith in our ability to breastfeed, and support each other through the process. We hope that Dairy Queens can provide support for you during this time.

Please look through your friends list and think of which friends might also benefit from Dairy Queens! Members are allowed to add other members and people can request membership directly as well.
