Welcome to Fresh Start For Hens Rescue Hen Organisation.

We are an independent UK based rescue Chicken rehoming organisation with the objective of rehoming ex-commercial Chickens which would otherwise be slaughtered. These will be hens from Enriched cages, Barn or Free Range. To our volunteers, all hens are sent to slaughter at 18 months and so deserve a chance to continue to live a happy life with you, the back garden keeper.

We have grown into a nationwide organisation, with volunteers working all over the country and helping us to distribute the hens in localities as far apart as Hull, Blackpool, Haverforwest, Ipswich, Watford, Hastings, Basingstoke, Wolverhampton and Dover in Kent.

We are a team of dedicated volunteers, with full time jobs and families, but we each devote some spare time to volunteer to rehome as many commercial Chickens as we can.

We do not have any premises where we keep hens, but we collect them direct from commercial farms on set rehome dates, we will announce the rehome dates when we know them. Our rehomings uaually occur between February and October. We normally take a winter break for our national rehomings. For information on our organisation and rehoming dates, and to reserve some hens, please visit our website www.freshstartforhens.co.uk

Fresh Start For Hens commitment is always to work legally, ethically and completely in the interests of the hens welfare.

We will try to help with rehoming cockerels, but we may be unable to actually take them on ourselves, due to our volunteers living in residential areas.

As an organisation, we are always happy to help and advise with Chicken health and wellbeing, however, if your hen is poorly, though we will try to help, we will always suggest you seek the advice of an avian veterinarian for an acurate diagnosis and treatment. It is very difficult to diagnose from an image or typed description of symptoms, especially since some symptoms are relative to other ailments and the wrong treatment could ultimately kill your hen. PLEASE DO SEEK A VET AS SOON AS YOU NOTICE YOUR HEN LOOKS POORLY.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE this group is for commercial and rescued hens, it is not a selling/advertising group for chicks, POL or hatching eggs/incubators. If you are looking to rehome your hens, (downsizing/change of circumstances) FreshStart Forhens volunteers will always help you to find a good home.

Thank you for joining our group, and we hope you enjoy participating and sharing your pictures (we LOVE pictures) and stories of your rescue ex-commercial Chickens.
