After he successfully invented Twister, toy designer Reynolds Guyer decided to work on another game.

He came up with a caveman motif that used foam rubber rocks to hide prehistoric coins.

Unfortunately, the game idea was a loser.

Guyer and his development team discovered that the the only good part of it was picking up the rocks and throwing them at each other.

One day Guyer took scissors to the “rocks” to make them round, and invented a “soft, friendly” name for balls that you could throw at someone without threat of injury or lawsuit.

Within ten years, the Nerf line had expanded to include all sorts of nonlethal missiles.

Parker Brothers originally developed a four inch Nerf ball in 1970, and it was introduced as the “world’s first official indoor ball”.

NERF stands for Non-Expanding Recreational Foam, and is made from a solid, spongy cellular polyester resin.

Thank you Mr. Guyer
