THE PURRING PANTHER

When you purchase a Bombay you have joined a very exclusive club. The Bombay is one of the rarest of cat breeds, renowned for its soft, sensuous black patent leather-like coat, its brilliant copper-gold eyes and its extremely loving, friendly personality.

The Bombay is a hybrid of the sable American Burmese and the black American Shorthair which has given rise to an exceptionally healthy and robust cat. The breed originated in America some 50 years ago. Even in America there are less than a dozen breeders of this fabulous feline, making it one of the rarest and most exotic cats in the world.

A Group for lovers of this gorgeous breed and adore there "Lil Panthers" !

The Bombays (including other Asian Self colours) are a very intelligent breed they are also entertaining and energetic. They are known to follow "their" new owners around the home in a dog-like fashion, sometimes to the irritation of these new owners. The Bombay demands to be the center of attention and likes to be involved in most of the modern familys activities, they thrive on the interaction between themselves and "their" owners. They are one of the most easy breeds to care for and have temperaments that sometimes resemble delinquent teenagers or as hooligans, but who will be a loving and effectionate family member for life!

Bombays are slow to develop the magnificent characteristics that engender their unique Panther image, until they are about four months old or more. this is when the first signs of the sleek, shiny black panther like coats begin to evolve, making it difficult to fully assess show potential sometimes until they are more than six or seven months old. The Bombay will often only achieve full maturity after it is a year to eighteen months old.

The Bombay and other Selfs share many of the behavioural characteristics of the Burmese cat. They are adaptable to living indoors or in apartments and enjoy human company. A Bombay will often accept dogs in the household more quickly than it will adapt to the other cats. The Bombay often wants to be the dominant cat in the household and this statment is very true with one of our retired Bombay breeding queens Baby who is definatly top cat.

Bombays are very inquisitave they will actively seek interaction with "their" humans and love to play games. Many retrieve and do tricks. Some have been successfully trained to walk outdoors on a lead. Like the Burmese, Bombays love heat and often can be found on a radiator or next to an open fire. They can go "missing" for hours on end only then to be " found " asleep under the bottom of your bedcovers.

Both Bombays and Burmese have a voice that is distinctive, They are reported to be even more vocal than the Burmese this however in our own exsperiance is not always the case as each cat is different and has its own out take on life, there voice is not as loud or harsh as the Siamese voice. some individuals can be quite talkative.

Some Bombays even have an affinity with water they find if fun to surprise their owners in "your" household shower or bath !
