Webster’s defines a single mom as the primary caregiver. “A solo parent, not living with a spouse or partner, who has the day-to-day responsibilities of carrying for and raising one or more children. Someone who is single, divorced, separated, or simply without support.”
To me, however, a single mom can be a very personal definition. Whether you raise your child alone, have a live in boyfriend, have a live out boyfriend, see the father, don’t see the father, get financial support or not, etc., it is all based on perspective and how you define it. For me, I’m a single mom raising my son on my own and I love him with all my heart. I never knew what true love was until I held that little boy in my arms. I support him by working full time and it’s hard. I do not have a lot of support, I’ve lost a myriad of friends, and I think what a lot of women that may be experiencing or already experienced similar situations need a place to vent, to support one another, and to ultimately love and encourage each other. I hope that, like me, you feel this is a safe place that you are free to discuss various situations you are experiencing with your children and feel you can look to other members for support and understanding. I want this to be a place that you don’t feel alone, because you’re not and I believe it’s important to be constantly reminded of that.
