Dedicated to the memory of Keith McCall
1987 - 2007

Keith was diagnosed with neurofibromitosis type II when he was 3. NF caused tumors in his head and neck all his life, yet he is known for his unwavering positivity, his sense of humor, and his love for his friends and family. Many fondly remember his performances in junior high plays, his smile, and his dead-on Jim Carrey impression.

He was awarded a diploma by Wyomissing Area Junior/Senior High School in November 2007 - it was a very proud day for him.

On December 21, 2007, at around 3pm, Keith took a turn for the worst. Paramedics were called - with Keith unconscious, gasping for breath and with no discernible pulse, they said he had between minutes and hours to live, and took their leave. A hospice nurse was called to care for him around 4pm, and friends and family were called. Around 6:40pm Keith woke up for a short time, talked a little and was very peaceful.

By 7:30pm there were about 25 people at Keith's house. Keith woke up again, and this time stayed conscious. He began talking and soon was veritably holding court in his living room, making people laugh and "rocking out" to the Rolling Stones. (During the party Keith entertained with a Mick Jagger impression.) He was talking to everyone for over three hours. Around 11pm he was becoming visibly fatigued, so most of us took our leave. He requested everyone return the next day so the party could continue, and was looking forward to being with his friends once again.

Keith passed away around 1:45am on December 22, 2007. He passed peacefully, just about to watch a movie before going to bed. His family and Mr. Mann were with him.

The hospice nurse described his turn-around as nothing short of a miracle - she had never seen anyone rally like that. We can all take comfort, not only in the fact that he is no longer suffering, but that his last hours were just as he wanted - surrounded by his friends and family.

In keeping with his character, Keith donated his remains for research on the disease.
