HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL

Sultan Kudarat National High School was named after the great popular Muslim leader Sultan Mohamad Dipatuan Kudaratullah known in the Spanish accounts as “Coralat”, Qudarat, an Arabic word which means “Power”.

The school was first established as a Barangay High School in 1969 at Salimbao, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao formerly Nuling with two adventurous teachers Mrs. Lilian Chio and Miss Eddy Gantes. Coincidence to its opening was the establishment of Matingen Barangay High School in the same municipality. But due to persistent public demand, the Hon. Datu Sanggacala M. Baraguir, mayor of the municipality supported and approved the merging of the said two (2) former barangay high schools to give way to the establishment of a new institution Sultan Kudarat Municipal High School in 1975.

This time the challenge of leadership was placed under the care of a young dynamic scion of Maguindanao Royalty Datu Karnain P. Mamadra, a man with a sense of dedication to service. Assisted him in the crusade in laying the foundation of the school were Mrs. Teresita Ancona as fulltime teacher, Miss Sevilla, Miss Evelyn Careno, Mr. Salvador Q. Tandog and Miss Cabacungan who were both part timer but remembered and cherished for their hard works and enthusiasm.

The school is strategically located on a four (4) hectare hill but fertile land overlooking the panoramic view of Sultan Kudarat municipality and surrounding areas, about 500 meters away from the national highway. That piece of land was donatewd by a man with benevolent heart Mr. Sandakan Chio, apioneer half Muslim half Chinese settler.

The community is practically dependent on agriculture for livelihood, though a small percentage of the population is doing entrepreneurial woks, factory workers, and government employees
