Our Dene Name is Radilih Koe meaning "The Rapids". Fort Good Hope is the oldest settlement in the lower Mackenzie Valley. Although established in 1805 by the Northwest Company, Fort Good Hope moved several times before it reached its current location, chosen in 1839. Our Lady of Good Hope church, famous for its unique interior murals, was built during Father Emile Petitot’s residence. In 1977, it was declared a National Historic Site.
