Maharaj Pt. Madan Mishra belongs to a family of the legendary musicians of Varanasi Gharana. His grand father Pt. Bundi Maharaj and grand uncle Pt.Kanthe Maharaj was the veteran maestros of Varanasi , while his father Pt. Chamu Mishra was a well known Sarangi player. Madan Mishra started his taleem in Tabla at the tender age of 5 years from his grand father Pt. Bundi Maharaj . He has given his first performance on stage , at the age of 7, and the first trip to abroad was credited to his account at the age of 12 in 1966, when he toured to Africa as a part on Indian delegation, accompanied Pt. Ravi Shankar in the Calcutta Music Conference at Calcutta and accompanied Ustad Ali Akhtar Khan , the Sarod vizard . By the age he had performed many solos and also accompanists with may great and famous artists.a very well knowned organization " sawarankur " gave the tital of Maharaj to pt. ji.
