DENOSA Eastern Cape

Eastern Cape Denosa is organising both in Public and Private Health Care Services. In about 13,600 nurses employed by the Eastern Cape Department of Health – Denosa membership is between 9,000 and 11,000. Denosa Eastern Cape is divided into 5 regions with each being led by a regional chairperson fully fledged regional executive and local shop stewards.


Region A is Port Elizabeth with its surroundings and Region B is around Queenstown. Region C is around East London and it is the second biggest in membership after Region A and it is very vast.

Region D is around Umtata and Region E is around Mt Frere and is the most rural in the Province.

Denosa provincial structure leads the province. This structure networks and lobbies the politicians and provincial management on issues like policy developments, engaging on proper implementation of policies and represents membership on socio economic interests. Denosa works in partnership with communities in health related issues for the benefit of the clients and their families.

Denosa officials and shop stewards represent the members in all workplace committees protect their rights and guide against any sort of an abuse. Denosa train and capacitate shop stewards and members through workshops and exposure to Cosatu activities. Members are kept informed of all latest updates by putting through circulars which are faxed to shop stewards and in turn they organize meetings to discuss information.

Denosa members also take part in all Cosatu programme of action, for example in HIV/AIDS workshops, gender activities, recruitment programme and service delivery programmes.

All nurses are called to come and join the happy family of the majority of nurses in Denosa.
