KIIT School of Biotechnology (KSBT) was established in 2007 as a constituent of KIIT University to be the first institute in the state to have integrated academic and research programmes.

With its foundation stone laid by Prof. Richard R. Ernst (Nobel Laureate in the field of NMR, 1991) and institute inaugurated by Prof. Hans Hengartner (Professor in immunology, University of Zurich, Switzerland) and Prof. Rolf Zinkernagel (Nobel Laureate in the field of immunology, 1996) KSBT heralds a new era of science with a broad vision in state of Odisha.

The foundation of such an institute in Odisha has been undertaken with vision of developing a trained human resource in the promising field of biotechnology. By means of a simple vision of “Science for Society”, we work for making biotechnology available to the common masses.

In toady’s modern lifestyle our dependence on technology needs no introduction. Biotechnology has the unique ability of giving answers to several problems plaguing the human mankind with the incorporation of several basic sciences and technical knowledge to emerge as one of mega sciences in today’s world. Allowing the knowledge of this field to trickle into the common masses for their advantage is one of the main endeavors, which are the basis for science and society programmes (malaria control, waste management, and biofertilizer formulations) with the support of KIIT University.

With our team of young and experienced research faculty we conduct several society based research programmes and workshops. We organize, sponsor and host guest faculty, national and international conferences and interaction sessions of well-known speakers for scientific growth of post graduate and research students besides having a personality development programme. Besides developing qualified personnel, KSBT has established a Technology Business Incubator facility (KIIT-TBI), for the promotion of entrepreneurs in making and juvenile industries. Association with several national and international (Cleveland Clinic Foundation, University of Florida, Texas A & M University, ETH-Zurich, EPFL-Lausanne, UNIL- Lausanne, EAWAG-Duebendorf, Max-Planck, Germany, University of Marburg, Germany) laboratories would allow collaborative research and also benefit growth and facilitate student scientific exchange programmes.
