The purpose of this group is to create a space in which students can ask questions, speak with their soon-to-be housemates, and generally get a feel of what University accommodation is going to be like.

Hopefully, this group will provide an opportunity for you all to get to know your new housemates and make the transition to University life that bit easier. Your Hall Warden for the year will be Chantal Goux.

Dos:

Think before you type. Not everything needs to be said out in the open and in public. Also, think about what you are writing and ask yourself is it suitable? There may be consequences to your actions.

Think about your audience. On this page, there are fellow students, members of staff, and people here to help you. If you are considering posting something that could be taken as inappropriate or being unhelpfully critical of something/somebody, please think twice. There are more productive ways of getting things sorted.

Don’ts:

Use it incorrectly. The whole idea of Social Networking Sites is that they are there for entertainment and social purposes.

Suffer in silence. If you become the victim of cyber-bullying, you need to report it through the right channels! Student Support and Guidance and your Hall Warden are great people to speak to, and will be able to help and advise you.

Be impulsive. Sometimes it’s far too easy to become rattled by something or someone, and to react without thinking.

Some things to consider:

Would you be happy for your Grandma, Dad, Sister, Children to be able to see and read what you have posted?
If yes, then you’re probably alright to carry on!
If the answer is no, then think twice before you decide to post anything online!
Could what you post or upload online be perceived as bullying, malicious, derogatory, offensive or inappropriate?!

Remember

Everything you post, upload, tweet etc. can always be traced back….
….So before you share anything on the internet, think carefully about who will be able to see it and any repercussions it may have!
