Update: My wife Tammy is a beautiful, friendly, talented, and loving woman, and a great mother to three gorgeous children, but Tammy has been troubled for way too long (about 21 years) by a very serious, debilitating, and potentially fatal mental illness called Restricting Anorexia Nervosa, an Eating Disorder. She has been in and out of hospital so many times I cannot even count, and has been to the Bellwood facility in Ontario twice over the last 15 years for therapeutic treatment, none of which have seemed to make any measurable impact on her recovery.
She spent 13 weeks in the hospital here in Corner Brook, ever since Oct 11th last fall, there was no overall improvement in her condition from day one, even with NG tube feeds for about 7 weeks, she was starving to death.
On January 13, she was transferred to the Health Sciences Center in St. John's, after weeks of deliberations about paper work and assessments, after her doctors and team here felt they had done all they could do, because sadly they have nothing to offer therapeutically for her disorder.
At the HSC, within the psychiatry unit, Tammy had a team of about 12 professionals who had developed a plan for her under their Eating Disorder protocol. Tammy was trying her best to gain strength enough to stabilize herself for transition into the outpatient Hope program in St. John's.
After a few assessments however, the Hope program concluded that Tammy was not yet ready for the mainstream outpatient program, but did offer her the opportunity to avail of their basic outpatient services, which includes therapy and support groups, but no meal supports. So Tammy would be living in an apartment in St. John's by herself, buying her own groceries, making her own meals, and eating by herself. Tammy declined this basic service, knowing she could not do this on her own, and feared major relapse, and losing everything she had gained over the previous 16 weeks. So she was discharged from the HSC and sent home, with the recommendation of trying to get into the Homewood Inpatient/residential Eating Disorder treatment program, in Guelph, Ontario, a very reputable intense program. That is where things stand right now, referrals have been sent off and the team is seeking funding ($20-30,000) for Tammy from the NL government, which itself may be the biggest challenge, she has contacted the Health ministers office already to plead her case.
Tammy is now at a fairly stable stage to welcome recovery into her life, I do have Hope that Tammy will be well again. She wants to be able to enjoy her life, her family, her marriage, her church, and eventually she wants to have a career.
Tammy needs a miracle, so she can say that this illness is finally behind her and she can LIVE in freedom from it! Please keep praying for us!! God will make a way, we are fighting as a family. We have a strong God protecting us, and bringing us through.
