GEC was founded in August 2010 by Larry Wiggs based on the Pohang English Club with the help of fellow Yeungnam University faculty member Craig Gardner and former YU student Damith Withanage. The purpose is to provide a casual forum wherein people from Yeungnam University, Gyeongsan and Daegu can practice their English skills with native speakers. We regularly meet at Hongme Coffee (a short walk from the fire station next to the YU campus main entrance -- turn right at CU Mart and we are on the left) Friday evenings from 7:30-9:30 and a 5,000 won entrance fee is charged for your drink. Hongme Coffee has been our home since April 2011 when another founding member Hongme Lee opened the shop. It is impossible to mention the more than 700 members from those first days to today who have made us what we are -- but each one of them has contributed to our succcess. (On Facebook you can see the original "Gyeongsan English Club" and "GEC Since 2010" ... these two clubs are no longer active.)
