Young university student, Matthew Shepard, born in 1977, was beaten, tortured, had his skull crushed by the end of a gun, lashed to a fence and left for dead in the near-freezing night. By the time he was found by cyclists the following day, he was barely recognizable as ever having been one of God's living creatures. He was not viewed by his killers as human, and he was treated, and discarded, as such. The only reason why this happened to Matthew was because he was gay.
