Hello folks. I come to you with a proposition. I want to start a book club.

I'm sure that we are all in the same position right now---fresh off of New Years, we have a hope of doing something interesting with our spare time. That motivation, however, seems to diminish as soon as we get back into the grind of work and repetition.

We are also former college students who miss Holy Cross. We miss reading good stories. We miss thinking about those stories--in the shower, right before falling asleep, on the walk to class. We miss discussing those stories in Kimball and in the dogpound and in a Fenwick seminar room.

So, here's the idea. I think we should start a bookclub.

Not some knitting-circle-Nicholas-Sparks-bullshit-bookclub. We are better than that. Something where we read good books, good stories--the kind of books found on that beautiful spreadsheet Mike Rogers compiled. And we talk about them--maybe via facebook, maybe emails, maybe letters, maybe phone calls. I dunno.

We'll start with short stories--we do one story a week, we each pitch suggestions, we discuss them and move on.

It wouldn't take much time and effort--we can move as slowly as we need to. But, by the end of 2013, we will have read 52 short stories or a great novel that we probably wouldn't have otherwise touched, and we will have talked to each other much more than we have over the previous year. It can be great, I promise.

If you are interested, let me know and we can iron out the details. If you think anyone else would be interested, feel free to invite them. And if you think this is an awful idea, well, I dunno, be nice about it and let me down easy.
