DB Morrill was a influential early Texan and traveling preacher among villages and farms across Texas. He was ordained a minister of the gospel at Independence Baptist Church, Independence, Texas, in the 1860s or 70s and preached the gospel up and down the Trinity until he died at age 48 riding horseback in the rain developing pneumonia and dying at Ladonia, Texas. He was from Bath, New York, sailing from there to seek his fortune, landing at what was then Galvez (Galveston), Texas, where he went to an open air gospel meeting where pastor Rufus Burleson was preaching, received the Lord and went to Independence with Burleson.
