Government Polytechnic, Adityapur, falling within the territorial jurisdiction of the State of Jharkhand was established in the year 1980, by the Department of Science and Technology, predecessor State of Bihar, to promote the academic growth among the members of the tribal community in particular, and to serve as a valuable human resource for industry and society in general. After the coming into being of the State of Jharkhand on November 15, 2000, this institute is currently attaining new heights with the passage of time under the efficient guidance and control of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Jharkhand, Ranchi. The Institute is totally funded by the State Government.
The institute is located on the Tata-Kandra main road at distances of about 8 km. and 3 km. from railway stations at Tata Nagar and Adityapur respectively. It is situated in the industrial hub of Adityapur. The major industries that look to this institute to provide them with their human resources include Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tayo Rolls Ltd., Usha Martin Ltd., Adhunik Steel and many more. N.I.T. Jamshedpur is at a distance of about 2 km. towards the South. The simplest and the most economical way to approach the institute is by bus or auto-rickshaw which runs throughout the day. Jamshedpur is well connected to the rest of the country by air, road and rail.
