Hy to All members of the group, I think most of you are aware of the circumstances surrounding Alan's case and if you are not please dont hesitate to ask.
This is a clarification of the facts.
Alan was a County council Carpenter from leaving school until he was retired on medical grounds in 2000.
.
His uncle Kevin Gorman (my brother ) has lived in Ghana since the mid 70's, he worked for Scanship Engineers for 20 years and then won a sub-contract with Heinz to supply tuna fish.
Alan had been to Ghana three times prior to his arrest. once on a family holiday with his wife and son, once when his uncle remarried in 2002 (and at that time Alan had hoped that his uncle would find him some light work, but he was unable to do so). Alan again visited in 2003 when his uncle was diagnosed with prostate cancer and was devastated, as we all were as my brother has young children.
Kevin was offered a large sum of money for a part in hiding narcotics,he took this and used it to pay for radium treatment for his cancer in the States.
As a family we deplore his actions and the consequences of his getting involved with this crime are still having awful repercussions for the whole of our family whether near or extended .İts a disgrace and a tragedy.
Afterwards his treatment Kevin was plagued with urinary tract problems and asked Alan if he could get him medication, diuretics, antispasmodics and antibiotics to ease his problems.
Alan arrived in Ghana on the 4th of January. Within two days of his arrival the narcotics police raided my brothers house and found 566 kilos of cocaine hidden in a cupboard which was sealed off by a huge mirror.
İts important to note that nobody had access to this cupboard once the drugs had been deposited there on the 31st of January 2003.
the Police had my brother and other men under surveillance and had seen them loading the cocaine and taking it to my brothers house.
Alan wasn't there yet the police witnesses said in evidence he was there. Alan produced his passport and flight tickets etc at the trial but these were dismissed.
there were 7 men in the house at the time of the raid, one had arrived a day before Alan and another the day afterwards, these two men were in partnership together and had extensive contacts in Ghana and in Marine businesses, and had been lodging in my brothers house.
The evidence is there clear to see yet he was still given 20yrs,He is hoping that this Appeal will free him and he can return to Wales after 5 years of sheer hell.
