As youth leaders we often use games and activities as informal teaching methods. The activities give the youth a chance to have fun, work together, learn about themselves and improve a variety of skills. But are our activities having the desired affects? Debriefing is a method of questioning participants after an activity in order to facilitate the ‘experience’ becoming ‘learning’. Without debriefing an activity we can lose these potential learning moments. As stated in the objectives of the youth program, it is important to “help young people acquire knowledge, skills and competencies, and to help them recognize the value of such experience”
But what is debriefing? How do we do it? When/where/with whom can we use it? These are the questions we will investigate during the week.
This 7 day training will gather youth workers from the EU and EECA countries around this topic. The expected results are: Improved quality of Youth projects, Promotion of the Youth in Action program, the inclusion of young people with less opportunities, the skills, qualifications and personal development of the participants – one of the goals of the training is to increase the skill level and the confidence of the participants with regards to debriefing. Another benefit is that they will have the opportunity to work in a true team environment with their peers and learn from each other’s experiences
