This is a group to debate the merits of "Veganism 2.0" as defended and defined below:

Veganism as it stands, carries with it a stigma. A stigma which hinders progress towards our goals, because it deters people from considering even the possibility of going vegan, or being associated with that stigma. This is important and not to be taken lightly. People are social animals, and care about how others perceive them, within family circles, friends' circles, and the fear of going vegan may have more to do with how they will be perceived, rather than the diet itself. Superficial, but nonetheless true for many. Therefore, it is worth addressing.

The source of this negative stigma, is the negative perception that many vegans carry through in their behavior and consideration of non-vegans. Veganism 2.0 is an attempt to address this maladaptive behavior and remove that stigma, so that we may attract greater numbers, more quickly, and achieve our goals faster. Some may see this as "acquiescing," but rather, it is accepting the reality of humanity as it stands today, and trying to work with it, as opposed to fighting against it. Veganism 2.0 is a push for a new vegan movement, centered around treating non-vegans as well as we want them to treat animals. This means, no more hateful speech or behavior, even amongst ourselves. This may include terms like "carnist," for example.

Intertwined with Veganism 2.0 is skepticism towards health claims about the benefits of a vegan diet. We must not present beliefs that, although make us feel good as vegans, are not supported by the scientific mainstream. We must not succumb to conspiracist notions to explain why mainstream science does not side with us. We must start with what science tells us, such as (1) Humans are omnivores, (2) The vegan diet is not necessarily healthier or superior, and any others that may come along. Anything that may contribute to an "ego" about us being vegan, needs to be abandoned, as this leads to and "us versus them" attitude, and placing ourselves in a position of moral superiority. This is not good.

The only reason we are vegan, is to boycott the treatment and abuse of animals, and our first goal should be to eliminate factory farming. We need numbers to do this. This is a grass roots movement. Therefore, we must act and behavior in a way that attracts great numbers. Nobody wants to be a part of movement if they think that everybody involved is disagreeable. Our own past and current behavior is our biggest obstacle to inviting new members. Therefore, every time we go out there and fight for animals, we are partially fighting ourselves, and therefore, wasting precious energy. This does not need to happen. We can make things easier on ourselves, but online, and perhaps even in real life, we need to treat non-vegans with compassion as well. From this, they will respond, it will be improve our image to society, and we will help more animals in a shorter amount of time.
