Developers put in plans nearly 2 years ago to Corby Borough Council to build a Resource Recovery Park at Brookfield Plantation, plans which include a Waste Plant.

This means a huge Incinerator pumping out tonnes of emissions over Corby and surrounding area 24/7.

At first the planners said 3000 jobs were coming with this development, that number soon went down to 800, and by doing some research we suspect that figure will again drop to about 30 skilled engineer jobs and maybe 10 local jobs to sift through rubbish! So will it really be worth it?

Well firstly we are concerned about what could be buried there. If it was dumped there in the 1950s from the Steel Works, the same stuff that was dumped at the Blackhills behind the Exeter estate, remember what happened when that land was dug up? Babies started being born with deformities, it took a while but the parents got justice for their children when it was proved a few years ago that the land was toxic and the council was liable! Do we really want to risk that happening again here?

Secondly 120 acres of woodland and wildlife will be destroyed - these are the last woods on the edge of town and have some very unique wildlife, including White Hart Deer, Great Crested Newts, Stoats, Foxes, Bats, all sorts of birds, wildflowers and fungi etc. They are beautiful woods and should be cherished, not destroyed.

Thirdly do we really want a huge Incinerator pumping out thousands of tonnes of emissions over our town? There have been concerns about increased links to cancer from these Incinerators and they are also now investigating deformities in babies born near these plants!

Breathing problem are already a major concern with the air quality in Northamptonshire and if the incinerator goes ahead I'm sure we will all be suffering. Roads will also be twice as busy with lorries bringing rubbish to be burnt here!

Incinerators that are already in use are constantly going on fire, wasting taxpayers' money and firemen's time to put them out!

They say other businesses will be on the development but what businesses want to reside next to a stinking incinerator?

There comes a time when we have to think about our children's future and what kind of environment we want them to grow up in. We need to protect what we've already got, because once it's gone, it's gone for good. The children and future children of Corby deserve much more than to be living in the dumping ground of England.
