Were you aware that, for the most part, the District Lines that determine the placement of a child into a middle or high school in Craven County were decided upon approximately 32 years ago? Were you also aware that, at that time, New Bern City Schools did not want children from the County boundary schools to infiltrate their system & so it was decided that children from Western Craven County would be bused 35/40 miles to newer, less crowded schools in the Vanceboro & Spring Garden Communities because they were "on the other side of the bridge"? Almost half a Century ago now the powers that be, within the walls of the Craven County Board of Education, decided that it would be best for children to ride buses for 1 to 2 hours, daily & one way, to attend school. As parents of children who are now members of those schools we feel that it's time for a change! We're tired of our children arising each day, before many of the faculty, staff & administration members of said Board of Education do, to board a bus headed for a school that it will take them 1 to 2 hours to reach in some cases, on overcrowded routes and we believe that it's time the Board Members took a look at ways to solve this & many, many other issues we have!!
