ES isn't a place where preaching is tolerated, ever. It is very triggering for most people. We accept all people from along the faith spectrum but we are not trying to persuade anyone to see things the way we see them. We are much more into empathy and support at ES. In that vein, we encourage more, "I feel," "I believe," "I think," as opposed to blanket or persuasive statements.
We also assume here that everyone's truth is their own and we don't assume that those that stay in the church are brainwashed, or those that leave are misled. We respect everyone's path and meet everyone where they are. We discuss all topics along the spectrum from faith promoting to extremely challenging; very little is off the table. However, this is not a place to vent ad nauseum about how corrupt and evil the Church corp and/or brethren are. There are FB groups that invite that language, we are not one of them. We aren't opposed to the occasional negativity or necessary rants, we just get tired of incessant postings of said rants. We try to deal with issues. If you disagree with something an apostle or leader has said we much prefer you focus on what you disagree with in the message rather than attacking the messenger. We try to allow that all people deserve respect, even those that may have hurt or mislead us.
Another thing you should know is that although we can be serious here at ES, we can also be silly and we value humor (I guarantee you will find 12-year-old humor, too). Interestingly, the humor (sometimes especially the 12-year-old variety) helps to diffuse difficult issues. Lots of valuable insight has been found in some of the more "juvenile" threads. Some have been incredibly therapeutic.
