WELCOME & THANK YOU for joining the ‘Long Valley Virtual Yard Sale’ (LVVYS)! The group was established in November 2012 to help facilitate the buying and selling of items among neighbors. For purposes of safety, comfort & manageability, MEMBERSHIP IS OPEN TO LONG VALLEY RESIDENTS ONLY.
We’ve all gone to or hosted our own yard/garage sales. Many of us have bought or sold gently used items online through ‘ebay’ or ‘craigslist’. You may find LVVYS to be somewhat similar to those other sites, but after a short time, you’re sure to discover what makes this experience distinct from others. That is simply because LVVYS is about community. At the end of the day, LVVYS members are neighbors, and in its short ‘lifespan’, this group has helped facilitate some wonderful connections!
The page functions as a true yard/garage sale, giving members the opportunity to de-clutter & make a little money on their treasures. And of course there is the beauty of finding anything from furniture and clothing to toys and appliances (often gently used, sometimes NEW) all for a fraction of the price. But there are many bonuses to this virtual experience! Members not only have the opportunity to shop what has been posted, but may also specify an item(s) for which they are searching. These are done via ‘ISO’ (In Search Of) posts which prompt neighbors to rally & root through their belongings to see if a need can be met! This has been especially helpful with parents seeking sports equipment for a child, newly licensed teens seeking their first car or even facilitating simple décor changes. What our members seem to appreciate the most is the comfort and convenience of buying from and selling to neighbors. To participate, you must be a resident of Long Valley, NJ. This is stipulated not to be ‘exclusive’, but for the practicality and sense of safety it provides our members. To sell, all you need is internet access & a means by which to photograph & upload photos of the items you wish to sell. (Directions to help guide you are posted in our ‘Files’ tab.) Add a little description, an asking price & you’re all set!
