As some of you know, Elyse was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) on Tuesday (August 12). What this simply means is that her bone marrow is not working correctly. Instead of producing healthy red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets, her bone marrow is overproducing immature cells that are blocking her bone marrow from producing the good cells her body needs.

Today Elyse will start her first round of chemo. This treatment will last 10 days. Following that will be 21 days of recovery and depending on her blood counts after those 21 days we will make decisions on when to start chemo round #2. During this time Elyse will rarely or maybe never leave the hospital. All of her treatment will be done in Halifax. Her Doctor said it would be optimistic to be home by Christmas.

Our plan for our family is to move us all to Halifax for the duration of this treatment. We think we have found a small house that we can rent and take possession of almost immediately and is about a 5 minute walk to Elyse's room. With help from family and friends we hope to juggle between being at the hospital for Elyse and making a home, routine and creating a sense of 'normal' for Sam, Drew and Marielle here in Halifax.

Even though this past week has been terrifying and awful we have been surrounded by love and support from family, from our wonderful church family and friends and so many others. Your prayers, love and encouragement are all truly carrying us though this and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Please continue to pray for Elyse and specifically that she becomes more comfortable in her surroundings, for strength and not to become discouraged, and for successful treatment.
