Planning on hiking the Appalachian Trail? Need some more info, encouragement, or maybe some advice from a like-minded community of women?
This FB group was created for women thru-hiking the AT though we also welcome section hikers, hikers' support people, and trail angels in our all women forum. We’re a supportive strong bunch of women and keep our focus on hiking and backpacking the Appalachian Trail with a Leave No Trace ethic.
There are a number of subjects women want to discuss without men around. Right?! You can use the SEARCH field in the upper right hand corner of the group page to see what previous conversations we’ve had. Many of your questions might be answered already. ;)
Within our small community of strong willed women, respect is important. Let’s not discuss politics or religion unless it is something very directly related to hiking the AT. Slurs against anyone for sexual orientation, race, religion, etc will not be tolerated. If such happens, one of the Admins will contact the person privately and ask them to edit their post/comment. If they refuse to do so .... it's their choice to not participate in our respectful group.
If your sole purpose in joining is to sell us something or get clients, please don't. If your product or service is something our members would truly find useful, just PM one of our admins and we'll be happy to add a link and your description in our FILES section where we keep just such a list. If you're a business owner who wants to participate in the group, awesome!

We’re not the only FB group for hiking women and welcome exchanging links with other groups by listing them in our FILES section. We happily make referrals to groups focused on other trails.
Let’s remember that this is the internet and it’s not always easy to discern someone’s “tone” from words alone. Try to assume we all have the best of intentions. If in doubt how to respond, sit on it for a few minutes or just ask.
