Below are some guidelines for posts and comments that all members are expected to respect.
1) No racism is allowed. This included any blanket negative statements about Jews, Palestinians, Arabs, Israelis, Muslims, or any other ethnic and/or religious group. This includes referring to ethnic groups by their specific names, i.e. Palestinians and not Arabs or Pals.
2) Personal attacks must be avoided. Comments such as "You're an idiot" and "So-and-so is filth" are not welcome.
3) Wherever possible, comments should focus on the content of what has been posted, or on the content of previous comments. Members are strongly encouraged to read and consider posts and other members' comments *before* responding to them.
4) As time goes on, it will be impossible not to recognize trends in the content and perspective of what certain members post. Personal relationships (include personal friction) will almost certainly develop. To the extent that this is a topic of conversation, this should be dealt with using language that is as respectful of other members (both themselves and their opinions) as possible.
5) Blocking other members is counterproductive to the goals of the group, that is, balanced discussion about the Middle East. Blocking an admin is grounds for immediate removal from the group.
6) 'Spamming' the group with messages is not allowed. Promoting your blog is fine, but not so often as to become annoying. Also, do not clutter the group with large volumes of 'cut 'n pasted' quotes. Use links, or quote short significant passages only.
7) Sexism is specifically forbidden. Addressing members with unwanted sexually charged familiarity is grounds for removal.
8) Netiquette as described at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netiquette is to be observed in all posts. For example, typing in all caps is akin to shouting, and to be avoided.
9) The existence of Israel is a given. Denial of Israel's existence or legitimacy is grounds for removal from the group.
10) While this is an open group, there are some people who have been blocked for guideline infractions. Anyone copying information from the group to those people is betraying the trust of their fellow group members. Feeding blocked members correspondence from the group is grounds for removal.
11) It is a waste of time to have to deal with public requests from members to have other members banned. Members, who publicly request the administrators to have other members banned, will themselves be removed from the group for a day. Subsequent violations will result in permanent removal.
12) No conspiracy theories.
13) No Nazi analogies, no Holocaust or Nakba denial.
