A group for Snakehead/(Channa family) keepers or fans of this wide family of fascinating, colorful and varied fish. From the shy and retiring to the downright ferocious lol.
They vary in potential adult sizes from 4 inch dwarf species to 4 feet monsters.
The USA has "in its ignorance" banned all keeping and importing of any of the species. " This was due to the reckless release and importing of the Giant Asian species, which seemed to find the USA river systems a home from home and is now wreaking havoc in many states.
I'm pretty sure Australia might have the same attitude. They have learned the hard way, some time back. ( Cane Toads and Rabbits come to mind ) LOL
Mostly native to Asia, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
Specimens of C. gachua from India and one from Taiwan (introduced) lack pelvic fins. Five species of Channa lack pelvic fins.
The last I read, there were 33 different species of the family Channidae/Channa.
