As one of the earliest Government College in Faisalabad, Govt. Postgraduate Callege Samanabad Faisalabad is a unique and well reputed institution. It has the distinction of being the first Govt. College in Lyallpur after partition.
It appeared on the academic scene of the City as Govt. Intermediate College Lyallpur in 1958 when it was set in a rented building at peoples Colony, Lyallpur. In 1975, it was upgraded to Degree level and from 1999 on wards, English (2002) and Economics (2002).Recognizing the importance of IT and commerce the college introduced ICS and I.Com Programmes in 1999 and 2007 respectively. Consequent upon its being declared a Model College by Govt. Of the Punjab in 2010, the college is going to offer BS (Hons) 4 years Programme in Chemistry, Economics , English , Information Technology, Islamic Studies, Mathematics, and Physics. The college also aims to introduce M.A. Islamic Studies in the academic session 2010.
