On the 17th of January 1976, John Mcmonigle and his youngest daughter left their flat in Govan, Glasgow to take some belongings to a new house. to wait for electricity to be connected.... It was to be a new start for himself and his three children. John Junior, Irene and Elizabeth as they lived in a single end (one room with kitchen cooker bed space living space in one area)
John jr and Irene decided to stay behind and John sr asked a neighbour to keep an eye out for them, as he thought wouldnt be long.
However, while he was gone, a man known to the Mcmonigles broke into the flat to steal a tv as he broke into the home two weeks prior and came back for the tv as he was obsessed with Dr Who, thinking that the place was empty, only to be confronted by little Irene, who was at that time 12 and John jr, who was 13.
Instead of leaving empty handed, Alexander Millar - who was well known for his violent outbursts and psychotic behaviour - he then proceeded to bludgeon the two children to death with a hammer, leaving them dead and barely recognisable on the sofa for their father to find later that day about 5 oclock in the evening.
John jr tried to fight Millar off to protect his sister,but was not strong enough. both were tied up gagged and sexually assaulted. Elizabeth was first to go into the flat which was in darkness,her dad followed trying to save is two children. not knowing what to do.
