Who are Lisburn City Paddlers?

Lisburn City Paddlers or LCP was formed in October 2008 by a small group of paddlers from the Lisburn and Greater Belfast areas.

In 2012 this grew to 70 members and we are now renowned as one of the most active clubs in Northern Ireland. A cross community club, we have members come from all areas and backgrounds with representation from Ukraine and France.
A third of our membership is female and we are committed to increasing this. LCP have obtained SportNI, Club Mark status and are fully affiliated to the Governing Body The Canoe Association of Northern Ireland (CANI). Members are interested in most aspects of the sport including whitewater kayaking, surfing, open canadian canoeing (both touring and flat water) and canoe slalom. The emphasis at present is on river running, sheltered flat water paddling and surf.

On the gentler side we participate in all CANI recreational flat water paddles and run family club days in places such as Castlewellan. We have several coaches at various levels on BCU (UKCC) Coaching Scheme who will encourage new members to embark upon the BCU Star Test achievement awards.
River conditions will largely dictate club sessions as we will not introduce beginners to the sport if rivers are in flood. We will not compromise on safety. With the addition of 5 newly qualified level one coaches we are currently running beginner sessions for Juniors and Adults with learning difficuties.
