If combining running or walking and socializing with all sorts of people who don't take themselves too seriously, and exploring different parts of the city or country-side appeals, then 'hashing' is maybe for you.
Trails (set by the hare) take about 45-60 minutes - hard enough for runners, usually with short-cuts for walkers, lazy etc.
At the end (on-in) is the "circle" to introduce everybody, get a beer / soft drink or whatever and have fun inviting people into the circle for various matters: visitor, returner, doing something crazy or funny on trail etc.
Afterwards for those who want to kick-on, there is often an informal continuation (on-after) at a restaurant or pub; or sometimes at a Hasher's place by invitation.
