After 85 years in operation, the legendary PLUNGE closed last month. Despite this popularity of this Belmont Park and The Plunge, the City of San Diego has refused to fix the facility’s many necessary structural problems. In addition, the City of San Diego has increased the rent and refuses to negotiate with the current leaseholder, Tom Lochtefeld. Tom Lochtefeld has invested millions into Belmont Park and is responsible for massive improvements of Belmont Park, including: new rides, The Wave House, restoring the park back to a family friendly attraction. The Plunge and Belmont Park are truly the centerpiece of Mission Beach. The Plunge has already closed, next could be the Belmont Park. Without Belmont Park and the millions of tourist that visit it each year, businesses and the future of Mission Beach is at risk.
