Because of the film 'A Bridge Too Far', many people with only a passing interest in WW2 only seem associate Operation Market Garden with the battle at Arnhem and the British 1st Airbornes Division attempt to secure the bridge across the Rhine.

However, as many will know, the operation itself stretch along a narrow corridor, which drove deep into German held territory. The operation would consist of the British 1st Airborne Division, which included,The 1st (Polish) Independent Parachute Brigade. The divisions objective, to seize and hold the bridge at Arnhem. The American 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions were to secure the bridges along the route. The 82nd would be dropped between the river Waal and the river Maas, south of Nijmegen. Their task was to capture the bridges, among them the longest (then) in Europe, over the Maas near Grave. The 101st would secure the southernmost bridges, including one over the Wilhelmina Canal at the town of Son, a pair spanning the Dommel River at St. Oedenrode and then four more over the Aar River near the town of Veghel, Eindhoven was also to be captured. The troops would hold the bridges until relief appeared in the form of the British XXX Corps charging down the single road, crossing the bridges successively and arriving at Arnhem as the vanguard of a larger force pushing south east into Germany.Well that was the plan. .

This group has been created by Dave Baverstock out of respect and in memory for his Grandfather Private Ralph Baverstock 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment and Grt Uncle Sapper Frank Navin 1st Parachute Squadron RE who both fought on the operation. Not forgetting all those other brave men who took part in this epic operation, many of whom would never see home again, God Bless.
