Computing and Network Services is defined as all the organizational units including Administrative Computing (AC), Help Desk / Support Services (CHD), Systems & Operations (SO), Corporate Customer Services and Training (CST) and the Senior Administrative unit.
Computing & Network Services provide the enabling computational technology, personnel of all of the operating units of the University and supports the computing and networking systems and services that are necessary for their efficient operations.
CNS is an information and communication technology service provider that is recognized for the technical skills of its team, for the optimal application of available resources and for the ability to partner with users to create and deliver high-quality services in concert with the mission of the university. These services are delivered through an infrastructure that is comprehensive, up-to-date, responsive, reliable, available, and intuitive.
Mission and Vision
The mission and vision of Computing and Network Services is to support the integration of information technology into the academic programs and administrative offices throughout the University Campus as well as outside corporate potential customers. Information technology encompasses the use of information in all of its forms. Support is provided in the form of guidance in proper application of technology, user assistance and training as well as software and hardware maintenance and support, and research of existing and expected technologies.
Focus Areas
Computing & Network Services (CNS) department provides access to the network and computing systems at the CIIT Abbottabad. Use of the labs is restricted to scholarly activities related to student’s instruction, research and faculty research and service, and to other activities directly related to the mission of the CIIT.
Wired Ethernet–based, Local Area Network (LAN) of the campus is one of the largest in the country covering an area of about 350 Kanals of land. The campus network facilities continue to grow at an increasing pace.
Wireless LAN based on 802.11g is also functional and covers the entire campus. Eighteen omni–directional antennas and nineteen directional antennas with thirty-six APS with growing demand are being used to implement WLAN in the campus. The campus now uses over 1150 computers (desktops computers + laptops), which are attached to the campus network. Labs are open from 08:00 AM to 3:00 A.M. with 24 hours Internet connectivity.
CNS is responsible for providing the computing and network services and support to CIIT campus.
