Joun Elia was born in 14th December, 1931 in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, and British India in brilliant family. He was a notable Pakistani Urdu poet, scholar, biographer and intellectual personality. He was broadly admired for his solitary writing style. A well known journalist and psychotherapist Rais Amrohvi and world-acclaimed philosopher Syed Muhammd Taqi were his brothers. He was the husband of famous columnist Zahida Hina. He was belletrist and well versed in Arabic, Persian, English, Hebrew and Sanskrit. He was youngest among his affiliates. His father’s name was “Allama Shafiq Hasan Elia” who was an astrologer and poet. His father was deeply involved in art and literature. He was grown up in literary environment and this environment grown him up on same lines. He wrote his first Urdu couplet when he was just 8 due to his environment.

Jon had very sensitive nature in his early teen age. He developed captivate imaginations about an imaginary character Sophia and his anger at English inhabitant of India. He gave a dramatic presentation to early Muslim period. He stated that his early poetry reflects the dialogue nature of stage drama. In his young age the United India was involved in Muslin-Hindu feud which resulted with end of British rule and partition of country on religious basis. A fomous poet “Pirzada Qasim” said about Jon that:

“Jaun was very particular about language. While his articulation is rooted in the classical traditions, he touches in new subjects. He remained in quest of an ideal all his life. Unable to find the ideal eventually, he became angry and frustrated. He felt, perhaps with reason that he had squandered his talent”.
