In 1955, Bertha and Harry Holt adopted 8 Korean War orphans. Motivated by their own experience, they assisted other American couples with their adoption; thus became what is known today as Holt International.

On August 31, 1961, Eun Hee Cho (#2972) was brought from the Seoul City Hall to the Holt Orphanage in Il San, where she was abandoned. She was given the birth date of 11/28/60.

On January 16, 1963, Soon Ok Whang (#3564) was brought to the Il San orphanage; she was given the birth date of 5/31/60.

Laurie Anne Gysin (Eun Hee Cho) was adopted on November 26, 1963. Patricia Kelly Adams (Soon Ok Whang) was adopted on November 28, 1963.

On November 30, 1963, 88 adoptees, with 52 American couples, boarded a Flying Tiger C-114 on a historic flight that landed at Los Angeles International Airport.

50 years later, Kelli posted a photo of herself with Bertha Holt on Facebook, which would change the lives of Kelli and Laurie. A friend in common, saw the post and wanted the two to meet. The friend didn't know, the two were in the same orphanage in Il San at the same time, were adopted through the same agency and arrived in the U.S. on the same plane.

Destined to be Seoul Sisters, Kelli and Laurie have discovered their lives have been quite different. This group is place for them to share what is in their adoption files and their journey to where they are today. We know there are many of you out there.

There are two common connections in this group:
1) You were adopted through Holt and landed in the Los Angeles area and/or have a sibling and want to share your story.
2) You are referred to as the "first wave" of the oldest living Korean adoptees in the U.S., now in our 40s and older.

Please join us on this journey as we share information about our adoptions through stories, photos, and videos.

Guidelines for this group:
1) This group is be about sharing and reconnecting.
2) If you don't have anything nice to say--don't say it.
3) Let's focus on the positive and eliminate the negative.
4) It all comes down to the Golden Rule.
