BAYSHORE ALUMNI COMMUNITY

DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this organization is to create a network of Bayshore elementary school alumni, professionals, and individuals that currently reside or once resided in Bayshore (Ottawa, Canada).

MISSION

The organization has three main objectives:

1. Maintain a network of personal and professional relationships between Bayshore alumni members;

2. Serve as a place to reminisce on good memories and reconnect with neighbourhood friends;

3. Actively participate in the development of the Bayshore community, particularly engaging with the youth in the neighbourhood.

CONTEXT

Anyone that has grown up in Bayshore knows that a piece of it always stays with you! Because it is a neighbourhood for families in transition, many people move out and move on. This network will serve as a good way to reconnect with classmates and old childhood friends.

Bayshore was a great place to grow up, but some of us know the trouble and struggle that came along with it. After discussions with teachers from both schools, we learned that some of the youth (and even parents) in the neighbourhood are experiencing social problems revolving around drugs, crime, and other family issues. Furthermore, some of the youth are lacking interest in school and education in general, which will get them in trouble down the road.

This is where we come in. You know how kids are, they won't take seriously advice from their teachers or their parents. We can play a strong role in guiding and mentoring the youth of the Bayshore community in a way that they can relate to.

If you love your neighbourhood, this is a good way to give back! We are looking for participants for our newest project: "Bayshore's Leaders of Tomorrow" (a summary of the project is in the "Files" section on the upper tab).
